FAQ
1. How do I become a member of the band?
Fill out our Sign-Up Form indicating your interest, and someone will be in contact with you shortly.
2. Do I need to audition to join the band?
No auditions are required for most instruments. However, auditions may be held for specific roles like drum kit, electric guitar, and electric bass in the Pep Band.
3. When are practices held?
Practices are held 2-3 times per week. Specific dates and times will be shared during Orientation on September 7, 2025.
4. What instruments are available for use?
We provide instruments for the following:
- Flute/Piccolo
- Clarinet
- Alto/Tenor/Baritone Saxophone
- Trumpet/Mellophone (French Horn)
- Trombone/Baritone/Euphonium
- Sousaphone (Tuba)
- Percussion
5. Do I need to bring my own instrument?
If you own your instrument, feel free to bring it! Otherwise, instruments can be provided upon request.
6. What should I bring to Orientation?
Bring a water bottle, athletic clothes, and running shoes to Orientation on September 7, 2025 at Alumni Hall Room M2.
7. What type of events does the band perform at?
The band performs at football games, hockey and basketball games, parades, and campus events. Check our Upcoming Events page for more details.
8. Can I join if I’m not in the Faculty of Music?
Absolutely! The band is open to all Western students from any faculty or year of study.
